A Heavy Equipment Technician from another client of ours started his new job at one of the Cooper Equipment locations in Alberta. He noticed the same frustrations at Cooper that he was facing at his prior employer. Many of these frustrations were centered around limited and inconvenient access to electronic service and troubleshooting for manufacturers such as Deutz, Isuzu, Bobcat and John Deere. It was suggested by the new employee that Cooper look at Jaltest as a single software solution, and WholeFleet Diagnostics was the recommended supplier due to our top-tier support and customer service.

Getting Familiar with Jaltest
We were able to get a demo unit to this branch quickly and in the hands of Ryan, one of the Regional Service Manager at the organization. This is when the Jaltest solution was initially validated as being able to communicate with and perform on the dynamic equipment fleet at Cooper.
Putting Jaltest to the Test
Soon we were in conversation with the National Director of Maintenance and the team of regional supervisors to discuss the viability of Jaltest across the entire organization. As Cooper is currently a user of OEM diagnostic tools there were many questions as to whether or not this could replace their OEM subscriptions completely or if they will still need to purchase dealer software.
We made it very clear, as we do with all customers, that Jaltest is not equivalent to the OEM software but offers close to the same level of capabilities and will include the day-to-day functions and capabilities required to get equipment back up and running. The rare ECM software calibration or updates are not within the scope of Jaltest yet, however, your fault code troubleshooting, emission system resets, and regenerations will all be possible across the dynamic range of equipment with Jaltest as the single software requirement.

This led to an in-person demonstration and trial at another cooper branch, involving the National Director and the team of regional supervisors. During the demo we spent half the day successfully connecting with anything in the yard, including diesel generators, skid-steers, paving equipment and excavators.

Cooper did an excellent job of integrating Jaltest into its operations and managing the change for its employees. After that last demo, Cooper purchased 6 Off-Highway Jaltest kits and had them installed on each of their regional supervisors existing laptops. This allowed a top-down approach to testing, distributing and training on the Jaltest platform. Once the 6 regional supervisors were comfortable with the software and were versed enough to train their personnel the next 18 units were purchased for distribution to the front-line equipment mechanics. Each of the regional supervisors were able to install, set up and train their teams on the Jaltest platform.
Operational Savings:
Using Jaltest in just 6 months Cooper Rentals conservatively was able to eliminate 25 of their dealer service calls per Jaltest kit.

Cooper Rental Equipment intends to continue adding more Jaltest kits to its operation as they grow and expand across the country.
The on-going support and communications with Cooper Rental’s Service Technicians has allowed WholeFleet Diagnostics to identify, document and share key insights on the effectiveness of Jaltest on specific makes and models utilized in the equipment rental industry. We are seeing more interest and inquiries from other equipment rental companies small to large who are looking to enhance their capabilities and reduce their maintenance costs.
